Early Life
Tyler was born on born December 1, 1988, in Columbus, Ohio to Kelly Joseph, a basketball coach & Christopher Anthony “Chris” Joseph, a former school principal. He grew up with 2 brothers Zachary Philip “Zack” Joseph and Jay Thomas Joseph, along with one sister named Madison Grace Brett.
Tyler had a normal childhood. Her mother was a basketball coach, so Tyler developed an interest in basketball and started playing it from a very young age. He started playing as a point guard for Worthington Christian.
In 2008, his team “The Versity” placed second on Division State IV tournament. The team also consisted of the future Twenty One Pilots bassist Nick Thomas.
Besides basketball, Tyler was interested in making short comic videos. So, He started uploading short videos to his Youtube channel “Slushieguys” from 2007 to 2013.
While making videos, Tyler was searching for something else.. more like a passion. And he discovered it after seeing a songwriter perform at a High street club.
Tyler had made up his mind to make music and for his newly found passion, he rejected an opportunity to play basketball at Otterbein University, along with a scholarship to the university.
Afterward, Tyler started learning music on a piano which was a Christmas gift from his mother. He would play music on the old piano and mimic the radio melodies.
That’s how Tyler started his journey as a musician.
Career
Tyler Joseph worked on his solo project No Phun Intended from 2007 to 2008 which is still available to listen in his PureVolume account. The guitar works on the songs were contributed by Nick Thomas.
Then, In 2009 Tyler Joseph founded the band in Columbus, Ohio. The band consisted of frontman Tyler Joseph, bassist Nick Thomas, and drummer Chris Salih,
They released a self-titled album in December 2009 and started touring Ohio. Everything was going well until 2011, when the other 2 members left the band, leaving Tyler Joseph as the only member in the band.
Later, he met Josh Dun and he Joined the band as a Drummer. Josh used to work at a guitar shop before joining the band.
In 2011, Twenty One Pilots released their second album called Regional at Best. Then, on January 8, 2013, they released their third studio album, Vessel. Afterward, the duo went on a tour “Quiet Is Violent Tour” in support of the album.
At this time, Twenty One Pilots has already become a widely popular band. With each successful album, Twenty One Pilots creating music that broke the boundaries of genres and inspired millions of fans worldwide.
After 2 years, On March 17, 2015, The duo released the 4th studio album. The fans were so excited for the album that they crashed the website while trying to pre-order the album.
After the release of the album, the band reached even more audience, making the album an instant hit. The duo went to 2 international tours: the Blurryface Tour and Emotional Roadshow World Tour from 2015 to 2016.
The duo has won the 59th Annual Grammy Awards for the Best Pop Duo / Group Performance.
In 2018, the band released their 5th studio album Trench.
